2月4日 How I feel...Over the last year I have been told I am the only one that can affect how I feel. This is one of the most egregious things to be told- a hypocritical lie. It is yet another way people are denying responsibility for their actions. Emotions, like it or not, are affected by outside factors beyond our control. Humans are inately gregarious creatures. Social interaction with others makes us who we are. Someone that makes us happy teaches us to appreciate them; someone hurting us teaches us what to avoid and what we should not tolerate. Accepting outside influence for feelings is not condoning acting on them and blaming others. If it were then murder, domestic violence, and meaningless suicide would be socially acceptable. Personal responsibilty is huge- denying and rationalizing away outside influence is self-righteous crap. This was illustrated to me all to clearly when I called someone on their actions- being told I was abdicating how I felt onto them. Yet in my diaglogue with this person, they stated that their own harsh words were due to having a bad week/day/etc. They "let" outside persons influence and direct their actions toward me and yet, in the very same interaction, stated that I should not use how they treated me as justification for feeling bad. This allowed them to justify not apologizing for their actions. After much deliberation I still cannot see this as a simple case of "do what I say not as I do"; instead I see it as not being considerate of how your actions and words can truly affect someone else for better or worse. People do make mistakes, but owning up to them and apologizing can help more than the words themselves appear to- that is if you care about those you hurt however unintentional it was. Thankfully I have the good fortune to also know honest, caring, and considerate people that mitigate the negative influences in my life. I only hope others are as lucky because I remember times when I was not all too clearly. 8月4日 SallustGaius Sallustius Crispus (Sallust) "Ambition prompted many to become deceitful; to keep one thing concealed in the breast, and another ready on the tongue; to estimate friendships and enmities, not by their worth, but according to interest; and to carry rather a specious countenance than an honest heart." -Bellum Catilinae "Ambition breaks the ties of blood, and forgets the obligations of gratitude." For those who want the original latin version: "Ambitio multos mortales falsos fieri subegit, aliud clausum in pectore, aliud in lingua promptum habere, amicitias inimicitiasque non ex re, sed ex commodo aestimare, magisque vultum quam ingenium bonum habere." 7月25日 Dog QuotesSAMUEL BUTLER:
"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."
ROBERT BENCHLEY: "A dog teaches a boy fidelity, perseverance, and to turn around three times before lying down."
GEORGE G. VEST: "The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will like the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. When all other friends desert, he remains."
JAMES THURBER: "If I have any beliefs about immortality, it is that certain dogs I have known will go to heaven, and very, very few persons."
GEORGE ELIOT: "We long for an affection altogether ignorant of our faults. Heaven has accorded this to us in the uncritical canine attachment."
HENRY WHEELER SHAW: "Money will by you a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail."

LORD BYRON: "Near this spot are deposited the remains of one who possessed beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without ferocity, all of the virtues of Man without his vices. This praise, which would be unmeaning flattery if inscribed over human ashes, is but a just tribute to the memory of Boatswain, my dog."

5月20日 Cold WaterAll good memories tainted
All hope and faith lost
All trust destroyed
All happiness I treasured vanquished
Battles were starting to be won
The war was turning in my favor
My greatest ally committed treason
Pain wins, I am annihilated
All good memories tainted
All hope and faith lost
All trust destroyed
All happiness I treasured vanquished
How could my judgement be so wrong
Self-worth is questioned
Discarded so easily and cruelly
Am I of such little value
All good memories tainted
All hope and faith lost
All trust destroyed
All happiness I treasured vanquished
Bravery needs a will to try
Generosity needs a benefactor
Fortitude needs hope to go on
Wisdom needs honesty to thrive
All good memories tainted
All hope and faith lost
All trust destroyed
All happiness I treasured vanquished
It is dusk
There is no moon
The stars are gone
The water is cold
